Let me start this blog entry by explaining why there are no pictures of Grand Canyon. I lost them! There, it's been duly noted for all future arguments and recriminations.
Now let me add a qualifier in my defence: the Grand Canyon certainly lived up to its name of being grand, but somehow it left me under awed after seeing the true beauty of the other canyons.

Natural arch forming in Zion. |
As we drove from one canyon area to another we naturally passed through a number of small towns. This meant we had to slow down each time and it was rather annoying to just get up to speed and then have to slow. As we passed through one small town there was a sign that registered our speed and flashed it if we were too fast. Another 100 metres or so along the road was the sheriff's car withe the "sheriff"sitting watching. Naturally we slowed to the correct speed for the town.

Jill with Gus the beagle. |
Just as we were leaving the town, a small dog, a beagle was running along the middle of the highway and in real danger of being run over. We stopped and Jill rescued him. The dog had been in some deep you know what as it was still over most of him! Unfortunately it was on a lot of Jill too before she realized.
We were in a quandary. What to do with dear little Gus (he had a name tag). Finally we decided to turn around and take him to the sheriff that we saw as we came into town.
When we got to his car we discovered that it was actually a dummy dressed up and used to slow speeding tourists!!

The "sheriff"that we drove into town to give Gus to. |
Eventually after a few house calls, Jill found some people who claimed they knew the owner of Gus and would return him. We drove away a little happier, except for Megan who wanted to keep him.
